Download Google Maps For Offline Use

We have all been in the situation where we are driving somewhere new and need to use Google Maps to navigate the way, but there is no mobile service about 10 kilometres from the destination. So we have to use our powers of deduction to work out the last parts of the trip.

Well here is a feature of Google Maps that is not well publicised.

Do your map search as normal and position your destination in the centre of the map. Now in the search bar at the top of the screen, type Ok Maps. This will tell Google Maps that you want to download this portion of your map to your phone.

When you download the map, you can use it offline. This means you don't need to worry about whether you will have mobile service there.

Also, you can still use your phone to navigate even if you have no credit on your phone. Modern phones act like a GPS so they can identify your location without 3G service. So, if you have downloaded the map earlier while you were on Wifi, the map will still overlay your position on the Google Map.

1. Search for your destination

2. Type Ok Maps in the search bar

3. Click Download to download that section of the map to your device
